Abstract:The kinetics of liquid-phase oxidation of benzylalcohol to benzaldehyde, catalyzed by 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-piperidin-1-oxyl(TEMPO) was investigated by means of initial concentration method in a solution consisting of N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF). The results showed that liquid-phase oxidation of benzyl alcohol was second order reaction, first order reaction with respect to both benzylalcohol and sodium hypochlorite. The activation energy was 30.69 kJ/mol and the pre-exponential factor was 1.72×107L/(mol·min). The calculated values by the kinetic model were in good agreement with the experimental data, indicating that the established kinetic equation is reliable, which can provide a basis for the design of liquid-phase oxidation reactor for benzyl alcohol and the selection and optimization of reaction conditions.
