Abstract:The petrochemical and chemical industry is one of the most important industries due to its diverse range of products in our lives The development of petrochemical and chemical industry under carbon peak and carbon neutrality constraints has caught much attention for its high energy consumption, carbon emission and polluting process. Recently, the replacement of fossil fuels by renewable energy in the petrochemical and chemical industry grows fast for the reducing of carbon emission and pollution. However, the intermittency and variability of renewable energy limit its direct application in the industry. Green hydrogen, as an important intermediary for extending the use of renewable energy, is considered a key green and low-carbon energy source for upgrading the petrochemical and chemical industry. This work focuses on the utilization and production of hydrogen in chemical process and aims to summarize the main forms of hydrogen use in the petrochemical and chemical industry. Finally, the feasible ways to utilize green hydrogen in traditional petrochemical and chemical process are discussed for the low-carbon development of petrochemical and chemical industry.
