Abstract:Microwave-assisted heating, by incorporating wave-absorbing agents, has broadened the application scope of microwave heating, enhanced the dielectric properties of heated materials, and is highly valued for its high energy utilization efficiency. To fully understand its technical features and apply them more effectively in thermal decomposition reactions, this paper introduces the principles and properties of microwave-assisted heating, analyzes the relationship of the selection of wave-absorbing agents with the major process parameters of microwave-assisted heating. A detailed review concerns the effects of microwave-assisted heating in processes such as mineral decomposition, biomass pyrolysis, and coal pyrolysis. Moreover, the influence of microwave-assisted heating on the product quality and thermal efficiency has been summarized. Future research should focus on selecting appropriate wave-absorbing agents and related process parameters based on different reaction systems and product quality requirements to fully exploit the advantages of microwave heating.
