Research Progress of Ion Exchange Modified Y Zeolites

Abstract:As a simple and convenient method of modifying Y zeolite, metal ion exchange influences significantly on the properties and performances of Y zeolite. In this review, the exchanged metal ions were divided into four types (rare earth ions, transition metal ions, alkali metal ions and alkaline earth metal ions). The effects of the four types of ions on structure of Y zeolite such as specific surface area, pore volume and pore size, as well as the active sites of Y zeolite such as acid-base, acid-base strength, acid-base number were discussed respectively. At the same time, the applications of Y zeolite modified by metal ion exchange in catalytic reaction process, physical adsorption process and oxidative decolorization process were summarized. Which would promote the Y zeolite modified by ion exchange to play a greater role in the fields of catalysis and adsorption, and provide guidance for the ion exchange modification of other zeolites.
