Abstract：Polymer materials may be damaged in the process of molding and using, thus reducing the mechanical properties of materials and shortening their service life. Self-healing polymer material is a kind of intelligent material, which has the function of self-diagnosis and self-healing of internal micro cracks. In this paper, the characteristics, self-repair types and applications of exogenous and intrinsic self-healing polymer materials were reviewed, and the future development was prospected. The development of self-healing polymer materials will have better prospects in the future if the effective service life of the materials could be further increased and the material costs could be reduced.
