Abstract:The construction of a "sponge city" requires asphalt to have excellent permeability and mechanical properties. At present, styrene-butadiene-styrene block polymer (SBS) modified asphalt is predominant, but it has the disadvantages of high cost and low stability due to the double bond in the chain. In this paper, polyethylene-octene copolymer (POE), SBS, petroleum resin (C5) and sulfur were used as composite modifiers. The influence of POE to SBS ratio, the content of C5 and sulfur in the modifier on the softening point, ductility, penetration and viscosity of the modified asphalt were studied. The results showed that the comprehensive performance of modified asphalt was preferred when the ratio of POE to SBS was 0.8:9.2 with a total content of 65% in the modifier and the content of C5 petroleum resin and sulfur in the modifier was 5% and 4% respectively. The softening point of the modified asphalt reached 91.06 ℃, ductility reached 44.3 cm, penetration degree reached 35.9 (0.1 mm), and viscosity reached 30 184 Pa·s. The obtained modified asphalt mixture had dynamic stability of 11 613 times/mm, porosity of 24.2% and viscosity toughness of 21.841 N·m, it meets the requirements of high-viscosity modified asphalt and had good high temperature stability and anti-rutting ability.
