Abstract:With the improvement of environmental protection requirements, the removal of sulfur-containing industrial waste gas has been strengthened. In order to treat H2S tail gas of 5.0×105 t/a from synthetic ammonia plant, a hybrid processing scheme, which consists of a wet process adopting New Sulfinol method and a dry process using red mud and zinc oxide as desulfurizers, was proposed to make sure the deeply removed of hydrogen sulfide. The concentrated hydrogen sulfide was used to synthesize methyl mercaptan, a kind of high value-added product. The presented process was modeled and simulated by Aspen Plus software. The modified hydrogen sulfide circulation process and methanol-water double-effect distillation were used to reduce energy consumption, while the technological parameters of reaction and separation units were optimized by sensitivity analysis. The simulation results showed that the desulfurization ratio was extremely high. It is a novel technology with potential industrial application prospect to treat sulfur-containing waste gas.
