Abstract:Binder-free MCM-22 catalyst was prepared through the removal of inorganic binder by hydrothermal post-treatment of binder-containing MCM-22 catalyst with NaOH solution. Effects of the concentration of NaOH solution and treatment time on catalyst strength, zeolite content, acid amount and catalytic performance were examined. The results showed that highly active, binder-free and cylindrical shaped MCM-22 catalyst can be obtained with the optimized treatment conditions using 0.3% NaOH solution at 150 ℃ for 4 h. In the liquid-phase alkylation of benzene with ethylene at 200 ℃, under 3.5MPa, with weight hourly space velocity (WHSV) of ethylene 9.0 h-1, feed ratio of benzene to ethylene 3.0, the conversion of ethylene over binder-free MCM-22 catalyst is over 60%, better than that of the binder-containing catalyst(about 40%), and comparable with that of pure MCM-22 zeolite. Moreover binder-free MCM-22 catalyst was robust enough for industrial application.
