Abstract:The progress of the relationships between the end-user performances like loop tack, shear time, and peel strength and the material viscoelasticity was reviewed. A new methodology to develop a new product, which is based on a molecular rheology model correlating viscoelasticity with molecular structures and morphology of pressure sensitive adhesive(PSA), was introduced. This methodology allows engineers to tailor-make new PSAs responding to the market needs by rational structural design, which would greatly shorten the developing time period of a new PSA and save the developing cost. Additionally, the breakthrough in Gecko-like dry adhesive was also introduced. Compared to the current reversible adhesives, the up-to-date Gecko-like dry adhesive showed much higher peel strength, showing high application promising.
