Abstract:Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) has excellent water solubility and gas barrier properties because of its molecular structure with multiple hydroxyl groups, and PVA is non-toxic, biodegradable, and has excellent film-forming ability, making it regarded as one of the most promising eco-friendly packaging materials. This paper systematically reviewed the research progress of PVA film for packaging. Firstly, it elaborated on the research progress of PVA packaging film prepared by solution film-forming method and thermoplastic processing method, and their effects on film properties. Secondly, it discussed on the mechanism and effectiveness of modification techniques such as copolymerization, grafting, blending, and post-treatment in improving film properties. Finally, it introduced the application status of PVA film in food packaging, daily chemical product packaging, pharmaceutical packaging and other fields. This article provided ideas for the research direction of PVA packaging film based on the current development trend, aiming to provide guidance for the diversified and intelligent development of PVA packaging film.
