Development and Commercial Application of Energy-Saving and Consumption Reduction AB-19 Ethylbenzene Catalyst

Abstract: SINOPEC Shanghai Research Institute of Petrochemical Technology Company Limited. has successfully developed the next-generation AB-19 catalyst for ethylbenzene production via a pure ethylene vapor-phase process. Laboratory evaluations identified optimal operating conditions, with a 1 000 h long-term stability test confirming the catalyst’s consistent performance. Industrial-scale production of 1.5 tons of AB-19 catalyst achieved a 100% qualification rate, demonstrating the reliability of the manufacturing process. The industrial test conducted at SINOPEC Guangzhou Petrochemical Company's 80 kt/a ethylbenzene plant revealed that the AB-19 catalyst outperformed imported catalysts, exhibiting superior low-temperature activity, excellent selectivity, and extended service life. This innovation provides enterprises with an effective solution for energy savings and reduced consumption in industrial operations.
