Abstract:In this work, aim at developing an efficient adsorbent for removing trace metal ions from methanol and investigating its adsorption mechanism, the dynamic adsorption and regeneration performance of EDTA modified silica gel (EDTA-2N-Silica) adsorbent towards Cu2+ adsorption was investigated. Besides, its adsorption kinetics and thermodynamics were also systematically studied. It was verified that the adsorption of Cu2+ from methanol by the adsorbent was mainly a pseudo-second-order reaction according to adsorption kinetics results. The adsorption process was mainly a mono-layer adsorption, which was an endothermic and spontaneous chemical adsorption process in light of the adsorption thermodynamics results. The results of dynamic adsorption at 30 ℃ with an initial Cu2+ concentration of 0.1 mmol/L in methanol medium demonstrated that the equilibrium adsorption capacity of EDTA-2N-Silica adsorbent towards Cu2+ attained 0.324 mmol/g, which was 25 times that of pristine silica gel. The adsorbent also exhibited excellent regeneration performance. Therefore, it was expected to be employed for the adsorption and removing metal ions from methanol.
