Abstract:Ethylbenzene is a kind of bulk chemical with numerous usages, which is mainly produced via the zeolite-catalyzed alkylation reaction between benzene and ethylene. Hence, the development and upgrading of zeolite catalysts are of great significance for the green, low-carbon and efficient production of ethylbenzene. This article reviewed the research progress in zeolite catalysts utilized in ethylbenzene production, including the zeolite catalysts in gas-phase ethylbenzene production, the zeolite catalysts in liquid-phase ethylbenzene production, and the zeolite catalysts in other ethylbenzene production routes. The methods for active sites modification, pore-structure adjustment, as well as morphology control applied in ethylbenzene production were summarized, which suggested the optimization of zeolite catalysts should be made based on specified ethylbenzene production route, focusing on the active centers, hydrothermal stability, diffusion capability and other aspects.
