Abstract:Recently, colloidal gas aphron (CGA) fluids have been much attended by researchers for their possible applications in various fields. In this study, polyether zwitterionic surfactant and xanthan gum polymer were utilized to generate CGA fluids. The average bubble size and size distribution of CGAs prepared under different conditions were compared and analyzed by using optical photographic technique, so as to determine an optimum preparation condition. Results showed that CGA fluids with bubble size less than 100 μm could not be obtained by conventional mechanical agitation. The base fluid volume of 300 mL, stirring rate of 3 000 r/min and stirring time of 3 min were found to be optimum conditions for the preparation of CGA fluids by the Waring-Blender method. In this condition, CGA fluid with acceptable stability and fine and uniform bubbles was obtained. It showed a narrow size distribution with an average bubble size of 62 μm.
