Application of Zwitterionic Materials in Biochemical Industry

Abstract:Zwitterionic structure is electrically neutral with the same number of cationic and anionic functional groups. Materials with zwitterionic group exhibit outstanding anti-fouling characteristics due to the super hydration layer formed between water molecules. In addition, zwitterionic materials also have properties such as adhesion, frost resistance, enhanced drug solubility and ion selectivity, which extend the application to biomedical, industrial production and other fields. This paper focused on the application of zwitterionic materials in biochemical industry. Firstly, the anti-fouling property of zwitterionic materials was summarized from the perspective of anti-fouling objects protein, bacteria and virus. Secondly, the application progress in medical sensors, drug delivery and separation membranes were introduced. Finally, the problems and challenges in the development of zwitterionic materials were discussed, and the application prospects of zwitterionic materials were prospected.
