Abstract:The efficient hydrolysis of carbonyl sulfur (COS) is an effective route to solve the damage of COS in industrial gases. A simple solid-phase mechanochemical method was developed to prepare nitrogen-doped carbon catalysts (TOK-X) which were applied into the efficiently catalytic hydrolysis of COS. A series of sheet-stacked nitrogen-doped carbon catalysts with high specific surface area (≥2 600 m2/g) were prepared using P-benzaldehyde and O-phenylenediamine as carbon and nitrogen sources respectively, KOH as activator. The samples were synthesized by the mechanical grinding polymerization and high temperature activation. It was found that the carbonization temperature was a significant effect factor on the catalytic performances of COS hydrolysis. The order of the catalytic activities of the prepared catalysts was TOK-700>TOK-800>TOK-600>TOK-900. Notably, the catalyst (TOK-700) prepared at 700 ℃ of calcination temperature could catalyze the hydrolysis conversion of COS more than 98% at 70 ℃. The characterization results showed that the high activity of the catalyst may be attributed to its high specific surface area and high pyridine nitrogen content.
