Abstract:The H2S/CH4 fuel-rich combustion process was studied to investigate the effect of CH4 on H2S oxidation and formation of COS and CS2 at different volume ratio of H2S to CH4 ratios (4:1, 1:1, 1:4). During the experiment, H2S and CH4 entered the reactor through the central channel of the coaxial dual-channel burner and air entered through the annular gap channel to form a diffusion flame, then the temperature and concentration were measured at each position in the central axial direction when stabilized. The results showed that H2S had an advantage in competitive oxidation with CH4 near the burner area and products were mainly S2 and H2O, while the generation of CO and CO2 was inhibited; the generated S2 could react with CH4 to produce CS2, and it could be observed that the concentration of CS2 was significantly higher than CO2, thus inferring that the reaction rate of CH4 and S2 may be faster than O2. H2, CO and C2H4 were generated in large quantities in the peak temperature region and consumed by oxidation downstream, where SO2 starts to be generated in large quantities. In addition, the absent COS was due to the low concentration of CO, which was difficult to react with sulfur-containing substances such as S2 and SH to generate COS.
