Abstract:Poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate)(PBAT)/poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) blends with various compositions were prepared via melting blending method. The effects of PEO content on the microphase morphology, crystallization behavior, mechanical properties, hydrophilicity and degradation rate of PBAT/PEO blends were studied by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), tensile testing and degradation experiments. Results showed that the phase separation of PBAT/PEO blends became obvious with the increase of PEO content. During cooling from the melt, the crystallization of PBAT was accelerated by the PEO component; while the crystallization rate of PEO was lowered by the PBAT component. The incorporation of a small amount of PEO did not greatly damage the mechanical properties of PBAT. The hydrophilicity of PBAT/PEO blends was significantly improved compared with the pure PBAT. The degradation rate of PBAT was accelerated after the addition of PEO. The degradation rate of PBAT/PEO blends could be regulated by changing the composition of PBAT/PEO blends.
