Abstract:Gas bypassing has a significant influence on the performance of an airlift loop reactor. Gas bypassing behaviors were investigated in an air-fluidized catalytic cracking (FCC) solid loop reactor with the column of ?286 mm?2 900 mm and the draft tube of ?220 mm?1 200 mm. Results showed that flow rates of gas bypassing in the draft tube and the annulus increase with increasing the superficial gas velocity in both regions. Fraction of gas bypassing from the annulus region to the draft tube region increases with increase of superficial gas velocity in the draft tube region (ug,D), but decreases as superficial gas velocity in the annulus (ug,A) increases. While the fraction of gas bypassing from the draft tube region to the annulus region decreases with increasing ug,D, but decrease when ug,A increases. A correlation was proposed to predict the fraction of gas bypassing between the draft tube and annulus regions.
