Abstract:Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method was employed to investigate the gas and liquid distribution performance of the arborescent distributors. Two different structures were studied. One was the original arborescent structure without any modifications, the other was a novel arborescent structure with smoothed junctions. It was found that the uniformity of gas distribution was better than that of liquid distribution for both distributors. The flow resistance was mainly caused by both inlet and outlet structures of the distributor. A larger pressure drop can be observed in the vicinity of the outlets of the smoothed distributor due to its reduced channel diameter. Overall, the smoothed distributor has better uniformity than the original one for both gas and liquid distribution. However, the pressure drop of the former is slightly higher than the latter.
