Abstract:In order to use ethylene glycol as raw material of polyester, it must be treated to meet the basic standard of ultraviolet transmittance, and the content of impurities in ethylene glycol must be controlled. This review analyzes the main factors influencing the ultraviolet transmittance of industrially manufactured ethylene glycol, furthermore, summarizes the strategies, principles, advantages and disadvantages of enhancing the ultraviolet transmittance, including absorption by activated carbon and ion exchange resin, separation by semi-permeable membranes, ultraviolet radiation, catalytic hydrogenation, separation by sodium bisulfate, reduction by sodium borohydride, aldol condensation. This review also discusses the methods implemented industrially. And the research directions of catalysts used were also proposed.
