Abstract:This review summarizes the studies of a novel arborescent micromixer for process intensification. This review focuses on the recent advances in the performance of miscible liquids mixing, immiscible liquid mixing, gas-liquid mixing, and in precipitation of barium sulfate. The arborescent structure, in which the fluids are miniaturized and micromixing is intensified, is determined by minimizing the flow resistence and liquid hold-up according to the constructal approach. The results indicate that the arborescent micromixer has not only excellent mixing performance, but also large throughput and low energy cost. Hence, the arborescent micromixer has great potential in chemical industry.
