Abstract:Particle velocity in a 95 mm ID fluidized bed was measured with PV6D reflective optical fiber probes and then the signal analysis was conducted. A self-made disc device for velocity calibration was used to adjust the particle velocity calculated by the cross-correlation method. The effects of object speed and measuring distance on the measured velocity and signal strength were investigated. The results showed that the signal at 4 mm away from the probe was the main cause of the measurement bias, and the object speed had little effect on the measurement results. Based on the obtained velocity deviation curve and signal attenuation curve from the calibration experiments, the ratio of the velocity-deviated remote signals to the original signals was analyzed. By comparing the velocities calculated from signals filtered with different thresholds, the degree of data distortion was evaluated. A velocity correction using corresponding filtering threshold was then developed. Finally, the velocity correction method with threshold suitable for the present experimental conditions was obtained.
