Preparation of MoO3-x Modified Honeycomb-Like Carbon Nitride and Its Photothermal Synergistic Catalytic CO2 Reduction Performance

Abstract Introducing thermal energy into traditional photocatalytic CO2 reactions is a novel method for enhancing conversion efficiency. This study successfully prepared oxygen vacancy defect MoO3 (MoO3-x) modified honeycomb-like carbon nitride (MNCN) composite catalysts with various ratios by uniformly loading MoO3-x onto the surface of honeycomb-like carbon nitride (NCN) using a one-pot synthesis method. The composite materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), Ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-vis DRS) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) spectroscopy. Under full-spectrum illumination, the MNCN-1.0 composite exhibited an excellent performance, and yields of CO and CH4 reached 25.35μmol/(g·h) and 1.80μmol/(g·h) in the photothermal catalytic CO2 reaction. This is attributed to the unique properties of MoO3-x which is able to enhance the reaction temperature in full-spectrum reactions, promoting the synergistic interaction between the temperature field and the light field and thereby improving the efficiency of photocatalysis.
