Abstract The process route to convert light cycle oil into light aromatic hydrocarbon has attracted numerous attentions recently. However, low selectivity towards target products is confronted. Preparation of mesoporous nano-sized Beta zeolites possessing excellent diffusion property and moderate acidity is an effective way to improve its catalytic performance. For this reason, a new strategy to synthesize Beta zeolites with the help of growth modifiers combined with hydrothermal method in a diphase system of toluene and water was proposed. Compared with the conventional phase-transfer method, products acquired from the new method were of smaller particle size and abundant intracrystalline pores, at the same time, more medium-strength Br?nsted acid sites were shown. The catalyst Ni-Sn/Beta-C prepared by introducing cetyltrimethylammonium bromide into the aqueous phase during the synthesis process and nickel/tin as active center for hydrogenation displayed a yield towards target products as high as 74% in the tetralin hydrocracking probe reaction, which was attributed to its sufficient mesopore and proper acidity.
