Catalytic Degradation of N-heptane Using LaCo1-xCexO3 Catalysts

Abstract In order to improve the catalytic activity of LaCoO3 catalyst, part of Co was substituted by Ce, and series of LaCo1-xCexO3 (x=0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.20, 0.30, 0.40) catalysts with a molar ratio of 1: (1-x): x were prepared by co-precipitation method. The catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), BET, scanning electron microscope (SEM), hydrogen temperature programmed reduction (H2-TPR) and oxygen temperature programmed desorption (O2-TPD) techniques, and the catalytic performance of the catalyst was evaluated by n-heptane degradation. The results showed that the amount of Ce ion doping in the catalyst had a significant effect on the structure and activity of the prepared catalyst. In the case of x =0.05, the LaCo0.95Ce0.05O3 catalyst had only a single rhombohedral perovskite crystal. The conversion of n-heptane over the LaCo0.95Ce0.05O3 catalyst was up to 99% under the conditions of reaction temperature of 245 ℃ gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of 15 000 h-1and the volume fraction of n-heptane of 0.18%. Compared to using LaCoO3 catalyst, the catalytic activity of n-heptane degradation was increased by 25%.
