Abstract:Guaiacol is a typical lignin-derived model compound. Catalytic hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of guaiacol to cyclohexanol, which is a nylon precursor, is an effective strategy for lignin valorization. The RuNi bimetallic catalyst supported on γ-Al2O3 was prepared by a deposit precipitation-potential replacement method. The experimental results proved that 0.5Ru5Ni/γ-Al2O3 could achieve more than 80% cyclohexanol yield under a mild condition (180 ℃, 1 MPa H2, 3 h). The space time yield of RuNi bimetallic catalyst increased 57 times and 28 times, respectively, compared with Ni and Ru monometallic catalysts. There was little decrease in activity of 0.5Ru5Ni/γ-Al2O3 catalyst after repeated use for 5 times, implying the excellent stability. This work could be used as reference for the design of HDO bimetal composite catalyst for high efficiency catalysis of guaiacol.
