Analysis of Thermodynamics and Study of Macrokinetics for Oxidation of 1,2,4,5-Tetramethylbenzene to Pyromellitic Dianhydride

Abstract:The thermodynamics and macrokinetics about the synthesis of pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA) via 1,2,4,5-tetramethylbenzene(MTBZ) oxidation were studied in order to improve the yield of PMDA. The relationship between reaction enthalpy, Gibbs free energy and temperature of reactions in oxidation process was obtained by thermodynamic analysis. In addition, a possible parallel-series reaction network was proposed and a power-type macro-kinetic model for the oxidation of MTBZ to PMDA was established. The study results of thermodynamics and kinetics provides theoretical guidance to reasonably determine the process parameters such as the ratio of MTBZ to oxygen, residence time, reaction temperature and so on.
