Abstract：With dwindling of oil resources, more and more attentions are paid to pyrolysis of light alkanes to acetylene by thermal plasma. This technology can increase the value of light alkanes and reduce environmental pollution effectively. Both advances and prospects about conversion of methane and C2 alkanes by thermal plasma both at home and abroad are described. MW scale plasma processes are introduced and compared.
