Abstract:Using designed synthetic dimethyl-dicyclopentyl ammonium hydroxide (DMDCpAOH) as organic template, synthesis of BEC zeolite (polymorph C of beta zeolite) was carried out under static condition via hydrothermal crystallization with the presence of Ge and F. The effects of the crystallization temperature, molar ratio of Si to Ge, molar ratio of H2O to (Si+Ge) and molar ratio of HF to (Si+Ge) on the crystallization and morphology of BEC zeolite were investigated. The obtained samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), N2 adsorption-desorption and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). It is shown that with the optimized starting molar ratio of 0.833 SiO2 : 0.167 GeO2 : 0.5 DMDCpAOH : 0.5 HF : 15 H2O, after 10 days’ of crystallization at 170 ℃, the percentage of BEC phase in the obtained sample was high up to 85%. BEC zeolite showed a rod-like morphology with a length of about 20 μm, and the framework structure of BEC sample remained intact after calcination.
