Study on the Diffusion of Oil Displacement Surfactants in Porous Media

Abstract The diffusion behavior of the anionic and cationic complex oil displacement surfactants in porous media was studied by means of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The effects of permeability, temperature and surfactant concentration on diffusion distance and velocity were analyzed. The results showed that the higher the permeability, formation temperature and surfactant concentration, the farther the diffusion distance and the faster the initial diffusion speed. At 30 ℃, the diffusion distance of 0.5% (mass fraction) surfactant in 2 000 mD core was increased by 43.4% compared with 50 mD core. The diffusion distance at 80 ℃ was increased by 15.6% compared with 30 ℃. When the concentration was increased from 0.5% to 1.0%, the diffusion distance was increased by 77.8%. The diffusion velocity of surfactants in porous media followed the law of decreasing with time, decreasing rapidly at the beginning, and then slowed down until to 0.
