Study on the Synthesis Process and Characterization of Polyoxyethylene Dehydrated Mannitol Oleate

Abstract Using dehydrated mannitol oleate as raw material, polyoxyethylene dehydrated mannitol oleate could be synthesized through ring opening polymerization reaction with ethylene oxide under the action of catalyst. The effects of catalyst type and dosage, reaction temperature, vacuum time, and ethylene oxide feed ratio on the hydroxyl value of the product were investigated. The results showed that the optimal catalyst was KOH, with a dosage of 0.5% (mass fraction) of dehydrated mannitol oleate. Reaction temperature of 120 ℃, vacuum time of 120 min, the feed ratio of ethylene oxide and dehydrated mannitol oleate of less than 2.00 (mass ratio) were the optimal reaction conditions. Under the optimal reaction conditions, a series of products with different polymerization degrees were prepared and characterized by infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance hydrogen spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, rotary rheometer and video optical contact angle meter. The results showed that the polyoxyethylene dehydrated mannitol oleate prepared in this article had low content of by-product and narrow molecular weight distribution. Compared to Tween 80, it had lower viscosity and stronger surface activity, which can be used as a new type of surfactant.
