Study on Mechanism and Kinetics of Non-oxidative Aromatization Using Methane and Propane

Abstract To promote the oxygen-free aromatization of methane, effect of propane on the oxygen-free aromatization of methane over ZSM-5 and Zn/ZSM-5 catalysts was investigated, and the reaction process of the mixed aromatization of methane and propane was investigated by in-situ infrared spectroscopy. The results showed that the introduction of propane into methane aromatization could promote the conversion of reactants and the formation of aromatic products, and Zn species could promote the activation of methane. Through in-situ infrared spectroscopy, it was found that a large number of Zn-CH3 species were formed at the active site of Zn and then combined with benzene formed by aromatization of propane, which further promoted the formation of branched chain oligomers of phenyl rings, thus promoting the formation of aromatic hydrocarbons. The chemical kinetics of aromatization of methane and propane over Zn/ZSM-5 catalyst was investigated at 550-650 ℃. It was found that the formation rate constant of benzene was the largest, followed by toluene and xylene at the same reaction temperature. The apparent activation energies for the generation of benzene, toluene and xylene were 25.1, 31.9 and 77.9 kJ/mol respectively. Benzene was the main aromatic product.
