Design and Synthesis of Carbazole-Based Second-Order Nonlinear Optical Chromophore

Abstract In order to explore the matching effects of different electron donors with conjugate bridges and acceptors, a new carbazole-based nonlinear optical material was synthesized through Wittig and Vilsmeier reactions with carbazole as the conjugate bridges, with julonidine as the electron donor, and 2-[3-cyano-4,5,5-trimethylfuran-2(5H)-alkyl]-malononitrilel(TCF) as the electron acceptor. Its structure was characterized by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR), and the stability of the molecule and low-light nonlinear optical properties were studied by thermogravimetry, ultraviolet absorption spectrum, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The results showed that the chromophore with carbazole as the conjugated structure exhibited good nonlinear optical properties and thermal stability.
