Gasification Characteristics of PTA Oxidation Residue and Its Pyrolysis Decarboxylation During Gasification

Abstract Thermogravimetric analyzer and self-made gasification pyrolysis decarboxylation device were used to study the law of weight loss of purified terephthalic acid (PTA) oxidation residue powder during thermal gasification. The effects of temperature, carrier gas flow and water content on the conversion of aromatic acids and product distribution in the process of residue gasification were investigated. The research showed that the pyrolysis product at low-temperature was mainly benzoic acid, and there were few biphenyls, conducive to product distribution. With the increase of carrier gas flow rate, the residence time of gas decreases and the pyrolysis conversion of carboxylic acid decreases. Water vapor could act as hydrogen donor to increased the content of benzoic acid and benzene in pyrolysis products and inhibit the formation of other by-products. The suitable operating conditions of residue gasification process are as follows: gasification temperature 400 ℃, carrier gas flow 500 mL/min and water content 30% (mass fraction).
