Preparation of ZnFe2O4/NiAl/RGO Nanocomposite and Its Photocatalytic Performance in Antibiotic Degradation

Abstract The magnetic and separable photocatalyst of ZnFe2O4/NiAl/RGO was prepared by a simple solvothermal method, in which the controlled growth of ZnFe2O4/NiAl/RGO nanocomposites was achieved simultaneously with the reduction of graphene oxide (GO), and the photocatalyst was evaluated for the catalytic degradation of ciprofloxacin (CIP). X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-Vis), Raman spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to analyze the structure and composition of the photocatalyst composite. The results showed that ZnFe2O4/NiAl particles were successfully loaded on the surface of reduced grapheme oxide (RGO), and the introducing of NiAl layer double hydroxides could effectively enhance the response of ZnFe2O4 in the visible light range. The role of RGO inhibited the agglomeration of the ZnFe2O4/NiAl heterojunction, which improved its photocatalytic performance. The photo-degradation efficiency of CIP under simulated visible light irradiation was about 96.2%, and the constants of the quasi-first order kinetic constants were 3.6 and 10.1 times greater than that of ZnFe2O4/NiAl and ZnFe2O4, respectively. The construction of the heterojunction and the loading of RGO can effectively inhibit the agglomeration of ZnFe2O4, increasing the number of active sites, improving the separation and transport efficiency of photogenerated charges, and prolonging the lifetime of photo-generated carriers, thereby effectively enhancing the photocatalytic activity of ZnFe2O4.
