A Study of Aromatics Preparation by Gasification and Decarboxylation of PTA Oxidation Residue

Abstract  The effects of ZSM-5 catalysts with different molar ratios of silicon to aluminum on the decarboxylation performance of aromatic acids were investigated, based on the purpose of catalytic decarboxylation of aromatic acids from pure terephthalic acid (PTA) oxidation residue to aromatics. And ZSM-5 zeolite catalysts modified with Zn were prepared. Effects of Zn loading on the physical properties of the catalysts and decarboxylation performance of aromatic acids were studied, and process conditions in gasification catalytic decarboxylation of PTA oxidation residue were optimized. The results showed that the higher conversion of aromatic acids and the maximum mass yield of target product were obtained catalyzed by Zn/ZSM-5 within the loading amount of Zn species introduced by impregnation method was 1.0 % mass fraction, under the reaction temperature of 500 ℃ and mass space velocity of 6.0 h-1. The mass conversion of aromatic acid was more than 90% and the mass yields of benzene and toluene were 26.9% and 2.53% respectively.
