Reaction Route of Nitrocyclohexane Hydrogenation Catalyzed by Cu/SiO2 Catalyst

Abstract Taking the copper based catalyst for the reduction of nitrocyclohexane to cyclohexanone oxime as the research object, the main and side reaction routes of nitrocyclohexane reduction to cyclohexanone oxime catalyzed by Cu/SiO2 catalyst prepared by ammonia evaporation hydrothermal method were studied in a kettle reactor, with emphasis on the effect of the presence of water in the reaction system on the reaction pathway and the selectivity of the target product. It was found that cyclohexanone oxime was stable against hydrolysis and the introduction of water would lead to formation of appreciable amounts of cyclohexanone. It was inferred that cyclohexanone oxime would be catalytically hydrogenated to an unstable intermediate, which could be further hydrogenated to cyclohexylamine or hydrolyzed to cyclohexanone.
