Abstract zeolites have unique nano-confined channels/cages, which are widely used in gas separation, petrochemical industry and environmental protection. The diffusion property is a key factor to determine the separation and production distribution for the zeolite catalysts. Therefore, the investigations of the diffusion properties of guest molecules inside zeolites are of great significance for improving their catalytic reactivity and separation efficiency. However, molecules confined in such zeolite nanopores shows a dramatic difference in diffusion behaviors from those in the condensed state, and there are various factors that determine the diffusion coefficient and according diffusion trajectory of molecules, which brings great challenges to the systematic study of diffusion in the confined space of zeolite. This review focuses on recent research progress related to the diffusion inside zeolite, mainly summarizes the influence mechanisms of zeolite properties (such as topology structure, framework flexibility and active sites) and work conditions (such as concentration and temperature) on the diffusion behavior. Furthermore, the prospect for the further investigations of the diffusion inside zeolites was provided.
