Experimental Study of L-valve Flow Characteristics in a Circulating Fluidized Bed

Abstract With different particle size polystyrene particles as cold experimental materials, the effects of the L-valve horizontal section length, particle diameters, inflating section position and standpipe height on the L-valve discharge were studied in a circulating fluidized bed. The experimental results showed that the longer the horizontal length of L-valve was, the more unstable the granular flow was, and the higher of the aeration was needed to achieve the same mass flow rate. The L-valve was more suitable as a return device for the larger diameter particles. The larger the diameter, the greater the amount of aeration required to achieve the same mass flow rate. On the base of satisfying the pressure drop of the standpipe, properly increasing the position of the inflating point was more conducive to the stable regulation of the particle flow. The higher the standpipe height, the greater the return rate of the L-valve was under the same aeration volume. On the base of meeting the design requirements, a higher standpipe with a proper elevation of the inflation point and the use of a shorter horizontal section were helpful to increase the L-valve discharge rate and the stability of handling.
