Abstract Nitric acid catalytic reduction experiments were performed in a bath reactor and the effects of NO feed concentration, gas flow rate, reaction temperature and reaction time on conversion of HNO3 were studied. It was found that the conversion of HNO3 increased with the increase of initial NO concentration，the reaction temperature and the reaction time. The conversion of HNO3 also increased at first and then remained at a constant level with the increase of gas flow rate. Single metal Pd and bimetallic Pd-Cu catalysts were prepared by impregnation method. The effects of calcination temperature and different supports on the catalytic performance were investigated. The results suggested that the introduction of Cu ion could enhance the catalytic activity, higher calcination temperature was disadvantageous to the reduction reaction of nitric acid, and the catalyst using activated carbon as the support exhibited the strongest catalytic activity.
