Abstract The amount of the rhodium catalyst directly affects the economic benefits of hydroformylation process. Process simulation for the hydroformylation of propylene was conducted by using gPROMS software. Based on the data of working conditions, the reaction kinetic and the deactivation kinetic parameters of catalyst were modified. On this basis, a 4-year long-period dynamic process modeling was established under the condition of catalyst deactivation. According to the stage of the current operating conditions in the whole production cycle, the price of rhodium catalyst and the usage of the catalyst, the model was modified to increase the catalyst, and the optimization of temperature in the reactor and the CO concentration in the outlet gas were carried out in the follow-up period of the production cycle. Thus, an overall profit has been increased by 2% in the 4-year long-period of the production cycle. The result is instructive for actual production in the hydroformylation process and provides a reference for other processes involving catalyst deactivation.
