Numerical Simulation of Flow Around Particles on Mass TransferBetween Gas and Particles by Lattice Boltzmann Method

Abstract Direct numerical simulations for flow around the particles with homogeneous distribution structure and particle clusters with heterogeneous distribution structure were carried out by a lattice Boltzmann model coupled mass transfer. Distributions of velocity and solute concentration in the process of flow around the particles were numerically predicted, and both were significantly affected by the particle clusters. Based on the quantitative analysis for mass transfer of gas flow around the particles, it was found that the computed Sherwood numbers for two different structures were both exponentially increased with the increase of the Reynolds numbers. Furthermore, the Sherwood number for the particles with homogeneous distribution structure was 3-5 times as great as that for the particle clusters, which supported that the particle clusters would seriously affect the mass transfer efficiency between gas and solid in the process of flow around the particles. The established mass transfer model via lattice Boltzmann method can provide a theoretical guidance for the research of mass transfer for gas-solid two-phase flow with the meso-scale structure.
