Abstract To enhance the diffusion in SAPO-34 zeolite and the accessibility to the acid sites, hierarchical SAPO-34 with intra-crystalline and inter-crystalline mesopores is synthesized in a vapor-phase transport process with in-situ carbonized sucrose as a meso-template, where tetraethylammonium hydroxide (TEAOH) in the dry gel and morpholine (MOR) in the vapor work was functioned as structure directing agents. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and N2-physisorption measurements were used to characterize the structure of the zeolite sieve, and low density polyethylene (LDPE) degradation was tested on the molecular sieve. The results indicate that the hierarchical SAPO-34 zeolite exhibits nano-scale size, and has intracrystalline mesopores with mesopore volume about 0.41 cm3/g. Nano-sized SAPO-34 crystals were formed due to the promoted nucleation by TEAOH and its mesopores were created by the encapsulation of carbon template within crystals during crystallization. On the hierarchical SAPO-34, the degradation temperature (T50) at 50% of LDPE conversion is decreased remarkably, indicating the increased accessibility to acid sites.
