An Overview on Chemical Process Operation Optimization

Abstract This article first reviewed the history of process optimization. Process control, advanced control, and real-time optimization, together with scheduling and planning were then surveyed and the focuses were placed mainly on the research and application topics of real-time optimization. Multi-objective optimization, mixed integer linear programming and dynamic optimization problems were illustrated as typical examples of industrial operation optimization in real-time optimization, planning and scheduling layers. Finally, challenges in research and application of large-scale chemical process operation optimization, especially in process modeling and collaborative optimal control, were summarized.
