Progress on Modeling and Numerical Simulation of Gas-Liquid-Solid Stirred Reactors

Abstract Theprogress in mathematical modeling and numerical simulation of gas-liquid-solid stirred reactors was reviewed. Firstly, simulation methods for gas-liquid-solid three-phase flow were discussed and the three-fluid model was suggested as the most suitable one for simulating of three-phase stirred tanks. The progress in modeling of gas-liquid-solid stirred tanks was focused on the deficiencies of current researches: (1) The interphase forces models are not based on the physical mechanisms of interphase interactions; (2) The turbulence models can not describe the anisotropic nature in the stirred tank, and (3) No experimental data on local characteristics are available for model verification. Building "two-scale" gas-liquid-solid three-phase turbulence unit-cell model, extending the two-fluid explicit algebraic stress model to three-fluid model, and developing local camera probe and image processing software were suggested for future research to deal with the above problems, respectively.
