Abstract CO2 as the dominant gas driving the global greenhouse effect, has made efficient capture and process intensification a crucial step toward achieving deep emission reduction and advancing the “dual-carbon” goals, particularly for the treatment of variable-concentration CO2 emission sources in industrial sectors. This paper focuses on four mainstream CO2 capture technologies, namely solid amine adsorption, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) adsorption, ionic liquid absorption and membrane separation, as well as two key process intensification technologies: solid acid catalytic intensification and high-gravity mass transfer intensification. It systematically sorts out the core working mechanisms and technical characteristics of various capture technologies, clarifies the enhancement mechanisms of process intensification technologies on capture efficiency. On this basis, this paper deeply analyzes the bottlenecks that these capture technologies face in the promotion to engineering and large-scale applications, such as cost control, performance stability and equipment adaptability. Combined with the latest experimental data and practical cases worldwide, this paper proposes targeted optimization strategies for the transformation from laboratory research to industrial implementation, so as to provide practical references for promoting the development of CO2 capture technologies.
