Abstract To evaluate the performance of polypropylene (PP) capacitor film materials from different sources, 1102K from the Olefins Company of Shenhua Ningxia Coal Industry Group Coal Chemical Industry Branch, T30s from Maoming Branch of SINOPEC, and Borealis HC300BF from Neste were selected for comparative study. The electrical and mechanical properties of PP films under different draw ratios were investigated by uniaxial stretching method, with a focus on analyzing the reasons for the performance differences between 1102K and T30s, HC300BF. The results showed that the breakdown strength of 1102K was 638.59 kV/mm, and the energy density was 5.30 J/m3. The breakdown strength of HC300BF reached 715.31 kV/mm, and the energy density was 5.99 J/m3, with an energy efficiency as high as 91.38%. Through inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry analysis and thermogravimetric analysis, it was found that the ash content of 1102K was significantly higher than that of HC300BF, which might be one of the reasons for its lower dielectric performance. The research results provide an important reference for the selection of capacitor film materials.
