Preparation and Performance for Ethanol Oxidation of Nano-Pd/ Graphene Nanoplatelets-Carbon Nanotubes

Abstract  In order to further improve electrocatalytic activity and stability toward ethanol oxidation, Pd/GNPs-CNTs electrocatalyst was prepared through the microwave-assisted synthesis method using the mixture of grapheme (GNP) and carbon nanotubes (CNT) as support. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) X-ray composition spectroscopy (XPS) were used to characterize the particle size and crystallinity of the catalysts. The Pd nanoparticles were well dispersed on the surface of the mixture support with an average particle size of 3.3 nm. The electrocatalytic oxidation of ethanol was studied by electrochemically active surface area(ECSA), cyclic voltammetry(CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS), and chronoamperometry(CA) measurements. It was found that the ECSA increased and the current density of the ethanol oxidation reaction reached 100 mA/cm2. The onset potential of ethanol oxidation shifted negatively to -0.556 V. The Pd/GNPs-CNTs catalyst exhibits higher electrocatalytic activity and better stability for ethanol oxidation.
